Summer Fun

School is out.  Here are 20 FREE adventures to help beat boredom this summer:

1- Walk to a park & bring a picnic

2- Find a nearby museum (some cities have museum's that accept donations, but don't charge admission)

3- Text friends to meet up at a playground

4- Walk around the mall, window shop at the pet store, & play at the indoor children's area.*

*This is especially great for a rainy day or when the weather is too hot to be outside

5- Go for a hike

6-  Sign up for the summer reading program at your public library

7- Check out a video while you're at the library & have a movie night at home

8- Teach your kids how to cook something fun

9- Host a pot-luck in your own backyard

10- Some communities have outdoor summer concerts that are open to the public--search for one you might like & grab a blanket or camp chairs

11- Video chat with grandparents or cousins who live far away

12- Play hide and seek (Tip: hide in the laundry room if you have sorting to do, or in their closet if it's in need of tidying up. Your kids will think you're so cool for playing with them but you can be quietly productive.)

13- Cool off on hot days by running through the sprinklers or playing water tag (whoever is "it" has a spray bottle)

14- On July 4th, watch a community fireworks show instead of buying your own

15- Attend a craft event or story time at your library

16- Trade off babysitting with other families with kids so parents get a break & kids get a playdate

17- Take your kids fishing (no fishing license necessary for kids)

18- If you have a child that was in 4th grade this year, you can get a free national parks pass

19- Enjoy nature by stargazing on a clear night, visiting a beach, or watching a sunset

20- Encourage your kids to draw or write about their adventures in a journal. Summer goes fast. They'll want to remember these sweet times. ☀️

Stretching your grocery budget

Looking for ways to cut spending? Groceries are a necessary expense, but that doesn’t mean you can’t cut down that line on your budget. People are often amazed that we spend much less feeding 8 of us than most families half the size. Top tips to save on food: 1) Cook your own meals. I can buy a box of spaghetti, can of sauce, and bag of veggies for abt $3-4. That feeds all 8 of us! Guess how far $3 goes when we buy drive thru food...even if we’re sticking to the dollar menu. And the noodles only take 10 minutes to boil. Fast, filling food that costs next to nothin’. Gotta like that! 2) Enjoy meatless meals not just once a week but most nights. There are so many tasty options! Have flavorful black bean burgers, stir fry with peanut sauce, veggie pizza, corn chowder, crispy bean & cheese tostadas, omelets, your favorite pasta or chili topped potatoes. 3) Always pay attention to the per unit price. Applesauce in a pouch or baby food jar is about 10 times the price per ounce of gene...

Finding extra cash

I usually share ideas on how to SAVE money, but today I'm listing ideas of how to EARN a bit of extra cash if you have more month than money (and don't have time for a side gig!) I have google searched this before, and the ideas are usually terrible... like "take surveys" online which works out to a whopping $3/hr. or "rent your car" (hahaha... I drive old cars with quirks and noises that might seem disconcerting to those not familiar). If I'm short on an important bill coming due and out of liquid savings, here are some quick things I do:     - Check your cashback bonuses on rewards cards or your balance on Venmo to see if you can transfer that chunk of money to your checking account.     - Likewise, if you have any medical expenses you paid for out-of-pocket, you can reimburse yourself with your HSA.     - You can sell unused items in your home on FB Marketplace.  Clean them up, take nice pictures in good lighting, price things well, and you can quic...
